Avataar
About Avataar
An AI-powered Computer Vision platform designed to help enterprises create sophisticated AR/VR experiences and spatial configurations.

Business Problem
Avataar aimed to deliver powerful spatial computing capabilities to enterprise technical teams. However, the complexity of advanced AI technology created significant user experience challenges:
Tool Complexity
Based on the software's complexity and diverse user personas, the variety of selection tools increased dramatically, making the interface harder to navigate than necessary.
Unfamiliar Patterns
Users couldn't apply familiar tool patterns, complex coordinate systems lacked clarity, and tool purposes weren't immediately obvious. Missing tooltips and contextual instructions left users confused about available actions.
Delayed Feedback
Users only saw changes after clicking "Update" rather than experiencing real-time visual feedback during their work, breaking the natural flow of creative technical work.
Big Learning Curve
Without built-in tutorials or progressive disclosure, users faced a steep learning curve that slowed enterprise adoption and required extensive training.
This created a critical gap: cutting-edge AI technology trapped behind an interface that forced users to learn new patterns instead of leveraging their existing expertise from professional tools.

Role & Leadership Impact
I led the design team through a strategic pivot that fundamentally changed how we approached interface design for technical users.
Design Philosophy Evolution
Guided the team away from "cool patterns" toward a philosophy grounded in user mental models. Helped designers understand that the most successful solution is often the most familiar one.
Strategic System
User-centric design system centered on leveraging existing mental models from industry-standard tools. Prioritized familiar interaction patterns over novel ones to accelerate user adoption and scale.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Worked with product and engineering teams to establish design principles that balanced technical innovation with usability.

Strategic Solution
We reimagined Avataar's interface around leveraging professional tool mental models and reducing cognitive load:
Familiar Patterns First
Adopted proven interaction models so that users could immediately apply their existing professional knowledge, dramatically reducing onboarding time and cognitive load.
Direct Object Manipulation
Moved critical actions from isolated right panels directly onto the spatial canvas. Implemented intuitive "brush" tool patterns for deletion, painting, noise reduction, and edge refinement.
Real-Time Visual Feedback
Eliminated the "Update" button bottleneck by showing changes immediately as users worked. Created a responsive, fluid experience where actions and outcomes felt naturally connected.
Embedded Learning System
Built implicit tutorials directly into the application flow rather than relying on external documentation. Guided users through complex workflows with contextual hints that appeared exactly when needed.

Results
The strategic pivot toward familiar patterns delivered measurable improvements across adoption, efficiency, and team understanding.
Enterprise Adoption
Achieved 60% faster onboarding for new enterprise users and reduced training time from days to hours. Technical teams could start productive work immediately by applying their existing tool knowledge.
System Scale
Established reusable patterns and principles that accelerated future feature development while maintaining consistency with professional tool standards. Created a design system that will later be scaled to dark mode without friction.
Strategic Foundation
Led an experience grounded in proven interaction models rather than custom patterns. This foundation enabled rapid feature expansion while maintaining the familiar, professional-grade experience users expected from enterprise spatial computing tools.
